Today What Went Well Was
In Literacy Block we continued to set daily goals and self assess if we are staying on task or not. Today in Math we switched gears from multiplication and looked at collecting data. We will be going around the school and collecting data from the students at G.W. Skene. In Social Studies we wrote about Alexander McCrae and how he is a Canadian Change Maker. We will be typing up our writing and posting them around our room with our Remembrance Day Artwork. Agenda Message: - Conferences Tomorrow Thursday November 16 (3:30pm-7:30pm) and Friday November 17 (8:30am- 1:00pm). - Times are booking up fast on Thursday so make sure you - book an appointment. - Thursday is a half day of school due to Conferences. - Friday there is no school due to Conferences. - Our Book Fair is all week! Make sure you take a look this week and during our Conferences. If you buy a book your name will be put into a draw for our grand prize.

Today What Went Well Was:
In Literacy Block we started to set goals for our daily work and self assess how we do each day. This will become a part of our citizenship in learning mark on our report cards. In Math we finished up and marked our multiplication split strategy page. In Gym we practiced our bumping, setting, and serving in volleyball. We went through a circuit of drills focusing on each skill. We will finish volleyball this week and start basketball next Monday. We had time to go through our Book Fair and buy any items we saw from our walkthrough yesterday. These books will also be available to purchase during our Conferences this week. We continued to look at the main problem during literacy block in our guided reading books. We are looking at how the main problem can change from chapter to chapter. In Social Studies we finished our biography of John McCrae and shared what we learnt as a class. In math we had a check in on different strategies to multiply In Science we finished our rough copy of our Wetland maps. Literacy Block we finished our our main problem booklets and handed them in. We had our Remembrance Day Assembly today, and took time to remember those that have fought for our country. During our FINE ART FRIDAY we worked on drawing half of John Alexander McCrae using a grid. Agenda Message: -Make sure we are getting plenty of sleep and bringing our warm clothes to school. We want to make sure non of us get sick! - Conferences are next Thursday November 16 (3:30-7:30pm) and Friday November 17th (8:30-1:00pm). We had our class photos today we will put our onto on the blog as soon as possible. In Literacy Block we worked on how showing our main problem through images. We also finished our read aloud today "The Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning". There are many more books in this series so I encourage you to continue reading. In math we finished working on some of math strategies and marked them as a class. In Social studies we researched John Alexander McCrae and his poem "In Flanders Field". In Literacy Block we are finding the main problem in our guided reading novels and finding quotes as evidence. In Music we are finishing our silhouette artwork for our grade 5 lunchroom. Some of us are already done and they look great! In Math we introduced a new strategy for multiplication called the split-strategy. In social we brainstormed more ideas on how we can be Change Makers and leave a legacy at G.W. Skene. In Literacy Block we continued with our guided reading instruction. In Math we continued to work on multiplying using 10s, 100s, and 1000s. We started to incorporate word problems as well. In Science we brainstormed the difference between abiotic and biotic factors and how they are connected to wetlands. In Social Studies we finished our letters and started a google doc on what being a Change Maker means to us. Today was a cold and frigid day! We spent some time outside for snack and lunch! PLEASE make sure that you are dressed appropriately for the weather (coat, boots, gloves, hat, scarf, etc.). We reviewed our doubling strategy in math, and started to practice multiplying by 10s, 100s, 1000s. In Science we learned about living and non-living things that we could find in a wetland. We also started and almost finished our good copies of our letters to Mr. Siakaluk and Mrs. Scarrow. We will finish them up tomorrow. Hopefully everyone didn't eat too much candy last night. It was so much fun to see everyone's amazing costumes yesterday. Today we continued to work on multiplication strategies and practiced our doubling strategy. In literacy block we worked on finding juicy vocabulary in our novels and defining them, writing them in a sentence, and finding synonyms and antonyms. Agenda Message: - We had our round two of vaccinations today. It went well but please remember to keep your arm mobile drink lots of water. - Make sure to dress warm and bring your snow gear this week. It looks like we could get some snow :( |
