Today What Went Well Was:
In Literacy we had our second last day to finish our research. In Science we finished up our Aurora Borealis slides. In Math we created a huge classroom number line with equal fractions. In Social studies we are creating a story board of our immigration research. Agenda Message: Tomorrow is a half day Conferences are from 3:30pm- 7:00pm Tomorrow and 9:00am - 1:00 pm on Friday. In Literacy we continued our research. We will continue this until Spring Break. In Math we finished our word problem and answered it together. after we went to a cool interactive website creating equal fractions. In Science we are working on our Aurora Borealis slideshow and how it relates to magnetism. In Library Ms. Hunt showed us the Jumanji book and we signed out "vacation books" for our Spring Break. Agenda Message: - Fun Lunch is tomorrow - Thursday is a half day due to Conferences. - Book conferences if you haven't already. They run from 3:30-7:00 pm on Thursday the 22nd and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday. - If those times do not work please contact me and we can set up a time to meet up that works best for you. In Literacy we continued our research on immigrant groups to Canada. In Gym we practiced our position skills in floor hockey. In Math we introduced a new word problem using fractions. In Science we looked at the Aurora Borealis and how it relates to magnetism. In Social studies we took our research and have started to create a story board. In Literacy we watched video called the "Arrival" based off the picture book. This story using powerful images to tell a story about immigrants coming to a new world. In Math we went over our fractions assessment as a class. We then did some practice on converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. We Finished our day with an assembly by the grade 4s. Agenda Message: Conferences are open for booking on Monday the 19th. In Literacy we finished off our historical fiction rough draft and then briefly started to do some research on some of the first immigrant groups that came to Canada. In Math we reviewed our equivalent fractions word problems and went through our answers as a class. In the afternoon we had a equivalent fractions assessment. The rest of our day was continuing our research of the first immigrants and settlers in Canada. - Agenda Message: - Fun Lunch forms due tomorrow. - Please return your Ernest Morrow forms if you have not already. - Tomorrow we have an assembly - Conferences are around the corner. Next week Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd. You will be able to book on Monday the 19th. In Literacy Block we started to write summaries on our Metis article. In Math we started to answer fraction word problems. Looking at examples and non examples. In Gym we played floor hockey games. In the afternoon we had library with Mrs. Hunt and had the privilege of watching a performance from evergreen Theatre company. Agenda Message: - Ernest Morrow forms (BLUE FORM) due back tomorrow. - Subway fun lunch forms due back by Friday March 16. - Parent Conferences are on Thursday March 22 and Friday March 23. Bookings will become available on Monday the 19th. - Outdoor school forms were sent home. Please take some time to look over the letter and put those dates in your calendar! In Literacy Block we looked at a new non fiction article about the Metis people and how they have been influential in our Canadian History. In Gym we continued to play floor hockey and learned some offensive and defensive positioning. We had the opportunity to walk over to James Short today and work with some grade 1s. We will be making stories with our buddies over the next few weeks. In the afternoon we continued to identify equivalent fractions and worked with geoboards to make visuals. In Social studies we continued to look at the fur trade and watched a video on the Voyageurs. Agenda Message: - Please return your Fun lunch form and money. They are due by Friday March 16th - Please return your Ernest Morrow forms in you will be attending there next year. - Here is a note from Ernest Morrow about the new forms that were sent home. Dear Parents and Guardians of Future Ernest Morrow Students, The Exploratory option forms have been updated for grade six. Students now have the choice between a Band option OR Performing Arts (or both). Thank you for completing and returning the BLUE FORM only. In Literacy we continued our non fiction work with our national geographic magazines. In Math we used laptops to help us visualize equivalent Fractions. In social studies we continued to research and compare The Voyageurs and the Coureur Des Bois. Agenda Message: Please have Fun Lunch forms back by next Friday March 16. Parent Teacher conferences are in a few weeks Thursday March 22nd and Friday March 23rd. Please stay posted for when bookings become available. Outdoor school volunteer forms were sent home today. The purpose of these forms is to just inform you of the dates of outdoor school (May 8-11), and ensure that we block them off in our calendar. This is an amazing opportunity for our kids and we expect all grade 5s to participate. We continued our national geographic articles in Literacy Block. In Math we practiced more with fraction circles and made as many equivalent fractions as we could. In Science we finished testing what materials are magnetic and not magnetic in our classroom and wrote our conclusion. In Social Studies we looked at the Coureur des Bois and how the are similar and different from the Voyageurs. We will continue this work tomorrow.
