Today What Went Well Was:
Today was our Terry Fox day and run and it was organized by Mrs. Tonkin's grade 5 class , and they did an AMAZING job! Today we tried to do as many laps as we could by walking, jogging and running around the dry pond outside. It was a lovely day to be outside and great to see the entire school show support for such an important cause. Agenda Message: -Next week is our last week before October break. -Make sure to return and green folders from home. -Enjoy your weekend and see you on Monday!

Today What Went Well Was
Today was our Orange shirt day recognizing and remembering those that were affected by residential schooling. "Every Child Matters" is their slogan and at G.W. Skene it id important that we show this to one another on a daily basis. Our Assembly was run by students and they did a great job speaking and performing for the rest of the school. Agenda Message: - Tomorrow is our Terry Fox assembly and run. We continued to work on Adding and Subtracting decimals to the thousandths place. We are currently brainstorming three places to leave our a legacy as grade 5 change makers at G.W. Skene. We will start writing persuasive letters to Mr. Siakaluk and Mrs. Scarrow to get permission to start them. Agenda Message: -Tomorrow is our Orange Shirt Day! Please remember to wear orange. In math we introduced adding and subtracting decimals, and will continue that for this week. In music our research group is researching moguls that have changed the music industry. Right now we are researching Simon Cowell We are also learning "hop scotch" cords on the key board along with rehearsing "Oh Canada". We are getting better and better at showing good sportsmanship in gym and soccer at lunch time. It is important as grade 5's to set a good example for the rest of the school. In our literacy block we worked on peer editing each others Somewhere Today Slides. Sometimes that extra opinion is exactly what we need to improve our work. In math we continued to work on ordering decimals using symbols, 100 squares, and standard form. Agenda Message: Orange shirt day is on Thursday 28th. We finished our presentations about places around G.W. Skene we would like to change or leave a legacy as grade 5's We also worked very hard and finished up our Somewhere Today sentences on google slides. This was our last class time for them, so if you would like to add more detail or pictures it will have to be outside of school. Our work is up on the wall so come by and take a look! Agenda Message: -Today is a half day! This evening is Student/Parent/Teacher conferences so please come by for the BBQ before hand at James Short Memorial from (4-5 pm). - My bookings are full for tonight but have a lot of space on Friday. We continued to brainstorm the idea of reputation and legacy. We used iPads and took pictures around the school of things we would like to improve or create as grade 5 change makers. In our Somewhere today slides we brainstormed and started to add pictures to enhance our sentences. We Continued to work on our Somewhere Today Slides. And started to edited our work, and most of us completed a self-assessment of our work. In math, we completed a check in for ordering and comparing decimal numbers to the thousandths place. During our Mindfulness time we started to brainstorm the difference between reacting and responding, identified how mindfulness lets us respond responsibly rather than react rashly. We brainstormed what a Change Maker is and how we can become one at G.W. Skene. This year in grade 5 we want to leave a legacy or improve our school in some way for future generations. We are going to brainstorm what we can do to positively change our school or community.
